Such Great Heights

[Golan Heights and Syria from a Roman Aqueduct]

Yesterday I had the amazing opportunity to go to Um Qais- a city of Roman ruins on the Jordanian border shared with Syria [to the right] and Palestine [to the left]. Directly behind me are the Golan Heights which are located on the southern end of the Anti-Lebanon mountains and have been used very strategically in the past during wars and land negotiations between Syria and Israeli authorities.

Originally we went in order to catch the sunset from the gorgeous, elevated view, but seeing as we are in the Middle East a little sandstorm covered it up. Nevertheless, it was a wonderful adventure full of exciting bus rides, getting into Um Qais for free, aqueduct exploration, sand-filled air, and deep debates.
