What Makes You Come Alive

                                                               [Utah Valley, Fall 2012]

"Don't ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive."

On Love and Soulmates

“Do you want me to tell you something really subversive? Love is everything it's cracked up to be. That's why people are so cynical about it. It really is worth fighting for, being brave for, risking everything for. And the trouble is, if you don't risk anything, you risk even more.”
-Erica Jong

Let's talk about love.
There are many kinds of love, and people love in many ways. Just as people are different, so is their love.
I can't say I have a ton of experience, but in my 21 years of living I have learned a lot about love.
I love a lot of people, places, and things. And I like to think that some love me back.

About two months ago my best friend, Megan Call, got married. It was truly a beautiful all-day affair and I am so glad I could be a part of it.
There was a lot of love.

I feel like people oftentimes shy away from the term "soulmates," because it implies one other person who is your perfect match.  And since there are about 7 billion people in the entire world, finding one to spend the rest of your life with seems daunting.

But let me tell you-- I have been to weddings, seen people fall in love, and witnessed marriages that last.
Yes, in life there are few guarantees. This is a harsh reality I have learned well, especially when it comes to love and relationships. But I believe that we have been becoming who we are and who we are supposed to be for a very, very long time. I also believe that we are all meant to find the most perfect match for us somewhere along the way.
Each and every relationship we have helps us get to where we need to be.
Just as everyone is different, our matches are different, and so is the timing.

I believe in soulmates because I've seen soulmates find each other. I've felt the calm contentment and spirit that comes from wedding days, and I've seen looks of eternal love emanate from couples' faces.

Soulmates exist.

So it's worth the wait. It is worth living life to the fullest and doing all that you can to learn, grow, and improve. Because one day you will need to be at a certain point to find the best friend who has also worked so hard to be there.

Happiest of marriage to Megan and Eric. I am so glad you two found each other again.
